Holy Week Devotional 3

This week, we prepare our hearts to celebrate Christ’s death and resurrection on Good Friday and Easter Sunday. We, at Faith Bible Church, want to be intentional about drawing close to God and seeking Him during this season and this week. Join us as we pray together.

Hebrews 12:1-2 (NIV) Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

By MK Jauchen - As we consider this week, the death and resurrection of Jesus, we marvel in the great work that Christ did for us. His work saved us and changed us. We look to Jesus as our Savior but also today, we look to him as our model, our pioneer, as we run “the race marked out for us.” Christ not only died for us, but in His perfect life on earth, He lived for us. He demonstrated perfectly what it means to be truly human. He showed us how to persevere in the midst of trials. He showed us how to resist temptation. And in His death, He showed us how to keep our eyes focused on the joy set before us and endure the cross that we bear in this life. Christ, Himself, is our joy. And it is a life lived with Him that enables us to persevere as we live in this broken world.

  1. What trials or temptations are you facing today? Pray that God would give you the perseverance to endure these struggles. Ask Him to help you keep your eyes fixed on Jesus and the joy that He brings.
  2. How can you share the joy of Christ with someone today? Ask God to bring someone into your life today (to your work, to your home, or as you are out and about) who needs to hear the gospel of Jesus.

This week, we prepare our hearts to celebrate Christ’s death and resurrection on Good Friday and Easter Sunday. We, at Faith Bible Church, want to be intentional about drawing close to God and seeking Him during this season and this week. Join us as we pray together.

Psalm 71:1-3 (NIV) “In you, Lord, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame. In your righteousness, rescue me and deliver me; turn your ear to me and save me. Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go; give the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress.”

From MK Jauchen - Throughout the psalms, the writers regularly refer to God as their refuge, their shelter, and their place of rest and deliverance. This week we remember and celebrate that Jesus, the Son of God, willingly set out for Jerusalem knowing that He would be betrayed, persecuted, and killed. This man, who in His earthly life had no place to lay His head, is for us as believers, our refuge-the place we can always go for rest and deliverance. Christ willingly gave up His right for deliverance from His suffering, so that we might have deliverance from the sin and death that invades our life. Our rock of refuge, suffered for our sins and in Him alone we find our deliverance.

  1.  Pause for a moment in your day and ask God how you can take refuge in Him. Is there a situation in your life that you need saving from? Are you struggling with a sin that threatens to destroy you or is hindering you from loving God and loving others well? Is there a relationship that needs repairing? Pray to Him about those things and ask for His deliverance.
  2. Praise God that Christ has delivered us from our sins, our shame, and our guilt. Praise Him for being your rock and your refuge.
