Holy Week Devotional 1

Isaiah 42:1 (NIV) Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will bring justice to the nations.

From Karen Hall - During Lent, we consider Jesus and His sacrifice and realize that our only hope is in Him. His death and resurrection allow us to benefit from God’s mercy rather than experience justice. The Son who is gentle and will encourage the fainthearted and despairing (Isaiah 42:3), the One who is the Father’s delight – He will be the one who executes justice to the whole world. Truth and righteousness will prevail (Isaiah 42:4) in our personal lives because of His death and resurrection and in the whole world because of His death and resurrection.

This week, as you watch the news or are feeling fainthearted, remember with Whom your hope lies. As you anticipate worshiping on Good Friday and Easter, pray that God will give you an opportunity to share your hope with a neighbor or co-worker. Just like God holds up His Son & says “see…my delight”, share your delight in Jesus, your savior with someone you know.

  1.  Spend some time today thinking about your hope in Jesus. Why do you hope in Him? Praise Him for the hope you have in Him and ask Him to use this week to draw you closer to Him.
  2. Consider the Father’s delight in Jesus. Is there someone today that you can share your delight of Christ with? A co-worker, a friend, a family member? Pray about how God might be calling you to share the gospel with those people in your life who don’t know Him.

Lent Devotional Week 6

As we prepare our hearts to celebrate Christ’s death and resurrection this coming Good Friday and Easter, we, at Faith Bible Church, want to be intentional about drawing close to God and seeking Him during this season of Lent. Join us as we pray together during this season.

Matthew 21:9 (NIV) The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!”

From Pastor Donnie Chase - Palm Sunday marks the triumphal entry of our Lord Jesus into Jerusalem. Just six days before His crucifixion, Matthew 21:1-11 tells us that “the whole city was stirred” with people asking about Jesus and shouting, “Hosanna!” Hosanna is a Hebrew expression meaning, “Save!” The people, wanting to be saved from the Roman occupation did not realize that Jesus had come to save them from their sins. As Jesus entered the city on a donkey, the crowds spread their coats before him and laid out palm branches they had cut in the road. All around Him they shouted loud praises of “Hosanna to the Son of David; Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest!” Through all of this praise, Jesus did not lose sight of His Father’s plan; the Suffering Servant did not lose sight of the cross.

  1. As we celebrate Palm Sunday, let us praise God for sending King Jesus to save us from our sins!
  2. Take time today to consider our role in our Heavenly Father’s plan. Pray that we would walk in obedience, just as Jesus did.
