Lent Devotional Week 2

As we prepare our hearts to celebrate Christ’s death and resurrection this coming Good Friday and Easter, we, at Faith Bible Church, want to be intentional about drawing close to God and seeking Him during this season of Lent. Join us as we pray together during this season.

Mark 8:35 – For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake, and for the sake of the gospel, will save it.

From Pastor Andy Voelker - Who is not interested in saving their lives, in making them worthwhile, full and rich, worth the living? There are two attitudes toward life that are possible, and you can have only one or the other. One attitude is to save your life now: hoard it, clutch it, cling to it, and see that in every situation your first instinct is to get what you can for yourself. That is one way to live, and millions are living that way today. The other attitude is to lose it: give it away, disregard what advantage there may be for you in a situation, and live life in dependence upon God. Living life this way, your first actions are to share Christ instinctively and to serve others selflessly. This is a better way of living for all of us today.

If you lose your life for My sake and the gospel's, says Jesus - lose your life by means of giving yourself away in the cause of Christ, giving up your right to yourself, taking up your cross and following Me - you will save it. You will not waste it, but you will save it. You will find contentment and satisfaction, an inner peace, and a sense of worth in your living. You will discover, not just in heaven someday but right now, that even though you may not have all the things others have, your life will be rich and rewarding and satisfying.

  1. Spend some time today, praying about the choice for a life lived to make Him known. Pray that by God’s power, we will find the grace to say yes to Him and no to us.
  2. Ask yourself, is a relationship with Jesus radically changing your attitude toward self and the way you live? What is God's plan for exchanging the selfish desires of your heart for the humble desires of a servant’s heart?

Jews For Jesus Co-Founder to speak at Faith Bible Church

Susan Perlman had a "typical" Jewish upbringing in Brooklyn, New York, yet her life as one of the founders of Jews for Jesus has been anything but typical. Susan came to believe in Jesus after a street encounter with Christian rock singer Larry Norman. You can order her story here. Soon after coming to faith, Susan moved to San Francisco. There her experience as an advertising copywriter and social activist helped shaped Jews for Jesus into the agency that changed the face of Jewish evangelism—making the Messiahship of Jesus an unavoidable issue to Jewish people worldwide. She helped write (and acted in) the ministry's dramatic presentations, authored numerous broadside tracts, and has been in charge of our media relations since the very beginning. She also created (and still serves as editor in chief) ISSUES our publication for Jewish people who are willing to explore issues from the perspective of Jews who believe in Jesus.

Susan's travels with Jews for Jesus have brought her into contact with many other missions agencies and various Christian organizations with whom she has served on committees and boards. In addition to the many articles she has written for Jews for Jesus, she's enjoyed opportunities to speak, write and contribute editing skills for numerous other groups and publications. Take a look a look at her photo gallery which includes a pic of her addressing 30,000 young people in a football stadium in Dresden, Germany about forgiveness and new life in Messiah through a translated message. You can also see here some things she wrote recently— the foreword in one book and a chapter for a book about A.W. Tozer.

Among the many hats that she wears, Susan is the first assistant to the Executive Director of Jews for Jesus and oversees our multimedia outreach. She has led many evangelistic outreaches over the years, and is excited to have a part in mentoring a new generation of Jews for Jesus leaders. Susan's thoughts on this new generation can be heard as one of many voices in our documentary, “Awakening.” See the trailer here

Christ in the Passover

Hosting Organization: Faith Bible Church
Meeting Schedule: Sunday, May 11, 2014 at 9:00 AM & 10:30 AM
Meeting Location: 1437 W Pleasant Run Rd
Desoto, TX 75115-2725

Jesus' Last Supper was actually a Jewish Passover. Susan Perlman of Jews for Jesus will re-create the traditional Passover service and explain how it foreshadowed Jesus' death and resurrection in a presentation called "Christ in the Passover" at Faith Bible Church on Sunday, May 11th at 9:00 AM & 10:30 AM.

Susan Perlman will set a table with items traditionally used at the Passover meal and detail their spiritual significance. She will also explain the connection between the events of the first Passover in Egypt and the redemption that Jesus accomplished, as well as the deep bond between the ancient Passover feast and the Christian communion celebration today.

Jews for Jesus has presented "Christ in the Passover" at over 38,000 churches. It has been enthusiastically received by Christians who appreciate learning more about the Jewish backgrounds of their faith. Moishe Rosen, who founded Jews for Jesus in 1973, has also co-written the book, Christ in the Passover, with his wife, Ceil. This seminal work includes a look at Passover in ancient times and how it is practiced today. It will be available after the presentation. Also available will be a DVD of the Christ in the Passover presentation with David Brickner, the executive director of Jews for Jesus, officiating.

Brickner, a fifth-generation Jewish believer in Jesus, succeeded Rosen as Executive Director in 1996. Brickner has kept Jews for Jesus on the cutting edge as the ministry has expanded and established branches in eleven countries, including the United States, Brazil, Israel, Russia, France, and South Africa. "We exist to make the Messiahship of Jesus an unavoidable issue to our Jewish people worldwide," Brickner states. "There are still a few that haven't heard of us!"

Susan Perlman will be happy to answer questions after the presentation. Call (972) 223-0000 or visit for more information. There is no admission charge.
