Where have we heard this phrase before? Almost every Sunday, we are challenged to live our lives, model our behavior and allow Jesus to shine through us so that others will clearly know that we serve the true and living God.

This was the same desire God had for the nation of Israel, God's chosen people.   In Deuteronomy 7:6, we read the following. “For you are a people holy to the Lord your God.  The Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be His people, His treasured possession.”

In I Peter this proclamation is extended to all believers. In I Peter 2:9, we read some very similar words, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.”

We are not perfect, but we have been forgiven and have been given the responsibility (chosen) to show the world who Jesus is. Ask God to give you opportunity to share with others the reason why you have hope in Christ as stated in I Peter 3:15: “But in your hearts set apart Christ Jesus as Lord.  Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.  But do this with gentleness and respect.”

Please take time and meditate on these encouraging verses!
