WE HAVE THE GOOD NEWS!
Here we find Jesus forgiving sins of a paralytic and eating with tax gatherers and so-called sinners but Jesus answers the Scribes and Pharisees' charge of blasphemy and impurity by association, with a curious charge to “learn what this means, I DESIRE COMPASSION AND NOT SACRIFICE, for I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners."
Sin could not be imputed to Christ by association with sinners or leprosy or death but rather He is the indestructible life-giver who makes us new creations as new wine in new wine-skins.
There is no sacrifice we may offer to compare with His, which paid once for all, the debt of sin we owed. Because we are recipients of the love of Christ, He has also granted us His power and courage to love other sinners as He does in faith. That is the essence of the Good News we may offer to those who have not yet laid down the heavy burdens they carry to take up His yoke instead.
