YOU GET WHAT YOU SEEK

Prov. 11:27 says… “He who diligently seeks good seeks favor, but he who searches after evil, it will come to him."  (ESV)

Have you ever played Hide and Seek with God? Sometimes I think that’s what He must think I’m doing in my life. Rather than focusing all my attention on Him and representing Him each day, I find myself reverting back to old habits and thoughts. God says that when we seek Him we will find Him.

Check out this verse…

Acts 17:27 “that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward Him and find Him. Yet He is actually not far from each one of us,”  (ESV)

Have you ever been in a dark place and felt like you’re so limited in what you can see and do. I woke up the other night and  started walking down the hall and walked right into the door. (I know what you're thinking,  “Why does this man not have a night light?”  I remember the many times I have gotten up without a light and stubbed my toe, and it really does hurt. (Cathy likes our room dark but loves me, and we now have a small night light in a closet two rooms away.) I think when we seek God and diligently seek His favor, it’s like waking up with the lights on, and we’re able to “feel our way along” and find our destination and find Him. Good advice even as we join the fight against the COVID-19 virus.

The second half of this verse in contrast mentions “he who searches after evil, it will come to him.”  Have you ever found yourself searching after evil. I know we don’t like to think of ourselves as actually doing that but have you ever allowed yourself to be drawn into something you know you should’t watch or dwell on, or thought about getting back at someone that has wronged you. Ouch! That path always leads us away from God, and it seems to be seeking us out. We have a real enemy, the Bible says, that is also seeking after us…

1Pet. 5:8 "Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour."

Today as we seek God, seek good, and seek His favor, remember He promises to never leave us or forsake us, and He is the one who provides all the light we need! Let’s diligently seek good and seek God’s favor. It’s a much better way to play to the “game” of life.
