God's Healing, Forgiveness, and Hope in Our Marriage
We (Manuel and Patti Calderon) have been married for 32 years. We were young (20 & 19) and expecting when we got married. We had four children in five years and according to family/marriage statistics, our marriage should have ended in divorce. It almost did after 13 years of marriage. We came to Faith Bible Church as a young family with quiet signs of stress of a struggling marriage but we kept our problems to ourselves. We knew we wanted help. We knew God could help us; but we didn’t know what that looked like. We came to FBC looking for a place to grow and be nurtured and to be in a church body where our children would grow and be nurtured. We have been and continue to be nurtured and to grow. Through solid Biblical teaching, training, lifelong friendships, study groups and several ministries here at Faith we have seen and experienced God’s healing, forgiveness and hope. We praise God for the gift of faith, the truth and power of His word. We praise Him too for His gracious gift of using the hurt, pain and joy in our lives to serve Him. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 reads, Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God (italics ours). Manuel and I have the privilege of heading up a new ministry here at Faith called Marriage Mentors. It is a mentoring ministry designed to empower married couples in the church to help others enrich or restore their marriage. Through the years Manuel and I have had the privilege of mentoring young couples preparing for marriage, couples desiring to have stronger marriages and couples struggling in their marriages. Marriage is a continual process of nurturing love and commitment. We have had the privilege of seeing the power of God’s word and love work in peoples lives and we have experience God’s continual growth and strengthening in our own marriage. Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift! 2 Cor 9:15

Patti,
Thank you for sharing and being so supportive during the time you and Manuel mentored me and JB when we needed help.
