SHARING THE GOOD NEWS AND SOMEONE GETTING SAVED IN 60 SECONDS
It is possible that a person could hear the Good News and be saved in 60 seconds. The reason is that trusting in Jesus is all that is required. Some false religions and cults have many other rituals and good deeds you must do. These false beliefs are based on a person’s efforts, devotion, and obedience that cannot be demonstrated in 60 seconds but may even take a lifetime. With those belief systems you may never really know if you have done enough to merit heaven.
Trust in Jesus Christ can happen instantly resulting in being sealed with the Holy Spirit with no wait time. Good examples of folks instantly being saved are found throughout the book of Acts. They hear the Good News that can be summed up with the letters of ABC. The letter “A” stands for admitting I am a sinner. The person may have thought they were doing pretty good on the long road to getting saved by their false belief but now they are convicted of their sin. Idolaters admit worshipping idols is wrong, those full of lust admit that is sin, etc., and the Holy Spirit brings conviction. The perfect moral law of the 10 commandments can be used to bring conviction and awareness of sin as a “tutor” to lead them to Christ. The person sees that they deserve God’s wrath and judgment once they see they have broken His moral laws. Felix “trembled” when Paul spoke of God’s judgment.
The letter “B” means they must believe the Good News and put their trust in Jesus God’s Son who is the King of Kings, that He paid for all their sins by dying on the cross and then rose from the dead. The person comes to understand that when Jesus suffered so terribly on the cross, He was suffering so they could be forgiven of their sins. He took their place on the cross they deserved. They understand that Jesus was sinless and therefore could die for their sins. They also hear that Jesus rose from the dead which is further proof that He is God’s Son and stands ready to save them.
The letter “C” means they must call on Jesus to save them. This is done through prayer. Romans 10 says “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” They understand that there is no other name under heaven by which they can be saved. They ask God to forgive all their sins because of what Jesus His Son has done for them on the cross. They are born again and have been brought out of darkness into light. They are new creations and temples of the Holy Spirit. They begin a personal relationship with God through His Son.
They give up many things: false beliefs once held dear; self-righteousness now replaced by trust in Christ righteousness; works-salvation replaced by trust in Jesus’ finished work on cross; loneliness since they are now never alone, always with Jesus at their side and the local and universal church for fellowship; emptiness since that hole in their heart is now filled with God’s presence; the chains of sin since they now have the fruits of the Holy Spirit available to them including self-control.
Lord Jesus, help us to take a few minutes to share the Good News today. Now is the Day of Salvation. We love You Lord.
