BEAUTY OF HIS SALVATION
Recently God has brought several streams of teaching together to make me more aware of the beauty of His salvation.
Although it is true that God rescued me from my sin and its consequences by giving an understanding of my deep need for a Savior and by giving me faith to accept the Gospel for the forgiveness of my sins. God doesn't stop saving me there.
As Pastor Mike has shared from the Gospel of Mark (Sunday morning series) and the Gospel of John (Wednesday night series) and my own study in an Adult Sunday school in the Gospel of Luke, the Salvation that God provides does not stop with the forgiveness of sins removing my infinite guilt and the Sovereign God of Creation decreeing that I am now infinitely righteous because of what Christ did for me. It continues as a Child of the King. I have the privilege to choose every day whether I will intentionally follow Him in the "light" or shirk from my responsibilities and hide in the shadows of self-centeredness and sin. This daily choice to "walk along the way with my Savior" transforms my faith as a child into experienced faith as one growing in strength and skill. But that is still not all that God has for us in the concept of salvation.
As a growing follower of the One True Savior, God places us in a community of faith and shows us to be inter-dependent upon one another. As body parts lead by Christ as the head, we depend on, are bound up in one another. The Holy Spirit equips each of us to do our role and shows us how to live together in love. But that's still not all God has saved us from and for.
Our salvation also includes a perfect future, in a perfect physical body, in perfect surroundings, under a perfect Leader, forever. As NT Wright describes, the "life after, the life after death" the existence we will have with Jesus, face to face forever, will occur after our resurrection bodies have been made alive by the return to earth of the Risen Son for his Church.
So when you consider all that God has saved you from, consequence of your sins, a purpose for every day you are alive, immediate presence with Him in paradise the moment we die, a perfect resurrected body when He returns, and a forever, perfect home built just for us in heaven - We do have so much to be thankful for.
May God fill your mind and soul this week with how much He has done for you.
