THE LORD HEARS WHEN I CALL TO HIM

“But know that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself; the Lord hears when I call to him.”
Psalm 4:3 ESV

There are a number of passages in Scripture that can give comfort, but I especially am drawn to the combination of sanctification and supplication that are contained within this one verse. Every time we lift up our praises and requests to the Lord, there is a sense in which we should treasure our holiness. We have performed no special work to deserve this, it is on merits of grace. This passage reminds me of John 10, in the sense that there is a special attention given to those that are possessed of the Shepherd.

Returning to the idea of comfort, we can rejoice in two aspects. We have a sure means of communication to the Lord through Jesus Christ, and our desire to be heard by Him implies that we are part of His fold.
