THE TRUE TEST FOR KNOWING GOD

1John 2: 3-7 "And by this we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that says I know him and does not keep his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whosoever keeps his word, in him truly is the love of God perfected. By this we know that we are in him."

The most wonderful experience in this life is knowing that you are forgiven and that you are a member of the family of God. To become a member of God's family we must come to understand that we have broken God's moral Law and stand condemned before a Holy God. Then by simple faith we trust Christ as our personal savior, believing that He died for all our sins. This message is preached throughout the whole world. But how do we know that we have believed the gospel message?

There are several sure signs that can look to for assurance. First, the Holy Spirit indwells the true believer. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says "What? Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have of God, and you are not your own? for you are bought with a price, therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit which are God's."

Secondly, 1 John 3:14 says "We know we have passed from death unto life because we love the brethren. He that does not love his brother abides in death."

Thirdly, We can know that we have been redeemed if we obey God's word and keep his commandments.

Once we have been born of God's Holy Spirit we have a love for God and want to please Him. We love to read God's word and obey Him. This is the test. Do you love God and keep His word? Only you can answer that important question.
