HE KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING

Habakkuk 1:1-3:19
Every time I have come upon Habakkuk in our yearly Bible reading I have to smile. I think back to August 1969. On Saturday, the 23rd of August, Pam and I were married. As a part of that process, our wedding photographer took a picture of Pam’s hand on mine over an open Bible. We were so enraptured with our wedding, that neither of us noticed the Bible was opened to the Book of Habakkuk. When we received our wedding album Pam laughed when she saw this photo! She honestly believed we may have been the only couple that had a picture of their hands over a Bible with the ‘Book of Habakkuk’ boldly printed above them. When both of our mothers saw the picture, they both asked, ‘Why Habakkuk?’ At that, we realized we needed to come up with a verse we could say was the reason for ‘Habakkuk.’

Now that you have read ‘Habakkuk,’ what verse would you choose?  Would it be, ‘O Lord how long shall I cry for help, and you will not hear?’ I promise you, I was joking, but Pam did not laugh, not even a smile, and I ended up in the doghouse for a bit! The verse that we found has become a favorite of mine. It is Habakkuk 1:5, “Look among the nations, and see, wonder and be astounded. For I am doing a work in your days that you would not believe if I told.” This verse was true for Habakkuk’s time, it was true for Pam and I, and it is true today! God is doing a work today that we absolutely would not believe if He told us! And we are a part of that work! Our God is a mighty God! He is a great God! He is a faithful God! He hears us when we praise Him and He hears us when we cry out to Him. Our God is faithful! He knows what He is doing!

It is a week before Christmas and all through my house,
Nothing is stirring, not even a mouse.
I sit in my chair counting my toes,
When I get bored, I add in my nose.
Then I remember all He has done,
All of the trials, all of the fun.
Through all of this, He has been right there,
Leading and guiding, all with great care!
Because of this I would like to say,
Have a blessed and peaceful Christmas Day!
Merry Christmas!

Paul, thank you for sharing! You have had many trials on life, but you continue to trust the Lord. Thank you for your hodly example. Your poem is so good, too!
