WHY DO WE PRAY?
Jeremiah 33:3 "Call unto me and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things which you do not know."
Why do we pray? We pray for many reasons. We pray because we know that GOD hears us and answers our prayers. We pray because we know that GOD has the power to do anything that is according to His will. We pray because we know that GOD is sovereign. He is the Creator. He rules the universe. He is the Almighty GOD. Nothing is impossible with Him. The Bible says "all things are possible if you can only believe." Mark 9:23.
Faith is a very important principle if we are to receive answers to our prayers. The Bible says in Hebrews 11:6 "But without faith it is impossible to please Him. For He that comes to GOD must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him."
Why do we pray? We pray because we believe the Bible. The inspired Word of GOD. 2 Timothy 3:16 says "All scripture is given by inspiration of GOD, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of GOD may be complete, completely furnished unto all good works." The Word of GOD teaches us the reality of the greatness of GOD. The Bible teaches us that He has all power. He is the everlasting GOD. He has no beginning and no end. He is the eternal GOD. He changes lives. He offers forgiveness of sin and the gift of eternal life to those who believe the gospel message and receive Jesus Christ as their personal savior.
We pray because we believe the Bible. We know that GOD loves His people and answers their prayers. Psalms 34:17 says "The righteous cry, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles." We pray because we have needs. We know that God will help us. Philippians 4:19 says "But my GOD shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus." We pray so that we can give thanks to GOD for all He has blessed us with. 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18 says "Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks for this is the will of GOD in Christ Jesus concerning you." We also pray in order to confess our sins and ask for mercy and forgiveness that we might have unbroken fellowship with our Heavenly Father.
We pray prayers of intercession when we pray for others needs and the difficulties that they suffer. We pray that GOD will help them. We also pray for friends and family members who are not saved that they to will come to know the Lord.
We pray in order to deepen our relationship with GOD. The Bible says "Draw near to GOD and he will draw near to you" James 4:8. GOD desires to have a close personal relationship with each believer. He desires an intimate relationship with His children. He is our father. We are His children.
GOD desires for us to learn to love Him. 1John 4:10 says "we love Him because He first loved us." We pray in order that we might walk with GOD. We share our heart with GOD. That is what prayer is. It is communion with GOD. It is the process of becoming friends with GOD. It teaches us to trust Him, wait on Him, and lastly to enjoy Him and His presence with us. We are the children of GOD. Talk with Him, walk with Him, commune with Him and you will never be the same. Ephesians 3:20-21 says "Now unto Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. " Amen
