JESUS - OUR PERFECT HIGH PRIEST

In Hebrews 7:18-26, we encounter the truth, once again, that the law does not save us and that Jesus is the only way to receive salvation. Verses 18-19 say that the law “is weak and useless for the law made nothing perfect” Even though the law was good at pointing out our sin, it lacked power to forgive our sin. That is why we need Jesus. Verses 24-25 say “because Jesus lives forever, He has a permanent priesthood. Therefore He is able to save completely those who come to God through Him, because He always lives to intercede for them”.  What a wonderful truth!

Jesus is our perfect high priest and meets all our needs. He is “holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners and exalted above the heavens” vs. 26. Under the Old Testament law, sacrifice was needed daily for all people, including the high priest. Jesus shed His blood “once for all”, meaning that His sacrifice on the cross did not need to be made more than once, let alone everyday. This sacrifice is sufficient to forgive our sin. Jesus does not stop at pointing out our sin, He actually has the power to forgive our sin, making us acceptable to God.
