TELL THEM ABOUT THE MAIN THING

I couldn't sleep the other night because I was thinking about the state of our country and world. We are distracted by so many things. Terror in Israel, politics, assassination attempt, anti-Christian message from the Olympics, the organization that is supposed to be bringing the whole world together is failing in its goal. But for a Christian, all of this is a distraction. It seems to me that this world, more than anytime in history, is winding down to the end. I thought about Jesus telling his disciples about the end of the age in Matthew 24.

"As Jesus was leaving the temple His disciples were calling His attention to its buildings. Jesus said, Do you see all these things? Truly I tell you, not one stone here will be left on another, every one of them will be thrown down.  His disciples asked Him later, Tell us, they said, when will this happen and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?

Jesus answers them. He talks about false messiahs, wars, famines and earthquakes as being like birth pains. Birth pains intensify over time in frequency and duration. He talks about persecution and death and being hated by all nations because of Him. He talks about false prophets and the increase of wickedness and that the love of most will grow cold. But (verse 13) "the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.

Jesus talks about the abomination that causes desolation and how the Jews are to flee to the mountains, and that the persecution that follows will be so great that, if those days had not been cut short, no one would survive.

Then He talks about His coming. V:29, The sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken. Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory, like Lightening flashing from the east to the west.

Our time here is short. We need to stop putting people down, But encouraging one another - and all the more as you see the Day approaching. (Heb 10:25) We need to tell them about the main thing, no distractions, that Jesus is coming again and that we need to be ready for His coming.
