In Luke chapter 10 Jesus was asked, “What must I do to go to heaven?” Jesus’ answer could be summed up as “Just be perfect!” when He replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.” Only Jesus Himself as God could keep such lofty standards of perfection. Notice it does not say the requirement is to love God with some of your heart, soul, strength, and mind, but 100 percent of it.

Jesus came to give spiritual sight to the blind, not just better vision to those who could see a little bit. Most unsaved folks think they are not spiritually blind, but just need to keep growing and learning to one day go to heaven. They reason that God will see how hard they tried and how much they improved themselves. But Jesus Himself warned that to reject His death on the cross to save them from their sins would result in not heaven, but a place in hell. Folks need to hear that heaven can’t be earned by doing your best, but by trusting in Jesus alone.
