A CALL TO HOLINESS

Psalm 101 is a psalm of David, the king of Israel who was a man after God’s own heart. What does this phrase mean? In part, it is explained by the words of this psalm. In each and every verse, David declares how he is going to live – how he will think, how he will manage his household, what he will look at, with whom he will associate, and so on.
Before all of that, David starts by saying he will sing praises to the Lord, sing of His love and justice. That is also where we need to start. If I try to do all the that I know I should do (or not do the things I should not do) on my own power, I am setting myself up for failure. Even the Apostle Paul had this problem when he speaks of not doing what he wants to do and doing what he hates (Romans 7:15-20).
Anyone who knows Jesus as his savior is a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). It is Christ in us who empowers us to live the way we ought to. But even though He is in us, it does not mean we will automatically live holy lives. We have to be in close communion with Him. We do that by praying in all situations, reading God’s Word, and meeting with other believers (even virtually) to be encouraged in our daily walk. Fortunately, we can do those things whether we are stuck in our homes or not. I encourage you to consider these things with me so we can all answer David’s call to holiness.
