Proverbs 16:16-17 - “How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen above silver. The highway of the upright is to depart from evil; He who watches his way preserves his life.”
The pursuit of wisdom is a theme that comes up over and over in the context of student ministry. As I walk alongside students, there is the constant question of where to find wisdom. There are so many voices yelling at our young people – from marketing companies, to social media, to friends and family with a non-biblical worldview and approach to life.  So much that is peddled to our students as wisdom, as good as it may sound, is not actually wisdom at all.
Wisdom is found in the Word of God with God’s presence. If we teach our young people to turn to God’s Word in adversity, then we can be assured that God will preserve their life (vs 17). The word translated life in verse 17 refers to a person’s soul. It is the same word used in Psalm 23:3 - “He restores my soul”.  God is the Fount of Wisdom and the keeper of our souls!
Praise God that His presence offers more to us than gold, but abundant life everlasting!
