Isaiah 28:16 is God’s solution for panic attacks and general feelings of anxiety, although not drinking caffeine is helpful too! The verse reads, “So this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic.” Panic and anxiety are defined on anxiety.org as “the sense of uneasiness, distress, or dread you feel before a significant event.” God is saying that anyone who relies on His cornerstone will receive relief from these feelings.
So what is this precious cornerstone? First of all let’s define cornerstone and see its purpose: it is the first stone set in the construction of a house or building. All other stones will be set in reference to this stone, thus determining the position of the entire structure. The Apostle Peter, moved along by the Holy Spirit, penned in 1 Peter 2:6 that the cornerstone is a Person: For this is contained in Scripture: “Behold, I lay in Zion a choice stone, a precious corner stone, And he who believes in Him will not be disappointed.”
We know from the context that Jesus is the cornerstone. When we line up our lives with Jesus as our example then we will experience less panic when the ups and downs of life occur. There is a quiet peace knowing that one’s life and decisions are guided by the Cornerstone. Lord Jesus, I pray our thoughts and daily choices are in alignment with You, our Cornerstone.
