HUMILITY
Today's reading in Proverbs is a seemingly simple instruction. Proverbs 27:1 instructs us to not boast about tomorrow as we have no idea what may happen in a day. We can have the best plans and intentions about the future but if they are not in alignment with God's will and we have not consulted God about those plans, we are in trouble. A well-respected pastor once said that both the hospital and cemetery are full of people who had plans for tomorrow. Let us live each moment of each day in total submission to the plan of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Proverbs 27:2 tells us to let another offer us praise. Solomon encourages us to not spend time praising our own accomplishments, possessions, and achievements. We are to humbly leave this for a stranger to do. In Luke's writing, Jesus explicitly states "For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted." There is a humility required of us as we go about the work of the Lord and today, especially today, may we all choose to walk in it.
