I LOVE A GOOD OBJECT LESSON...
In this passage, Jeremiah 35:14-19, God has a great object lesson for the Israelites - the Rechabites.
The Rechabites obeyed the commands of their father, Jonadab, the son of Rechab, while Judah disobeyed the words of their heavenly Father. Jonadab’s command to his sons was not to drink wine which they faithfully observed. God uses the prophet Jeremiah to contrast the faithfulness of this small nomadic tribe to the sin and rebellion of the nation of Judah.
As a result...
Blessing was coming for the tribe called the Rechabites.
“...therefore thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, “Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not lack a man to stand before Me always.”’ Jeremiah 35:19 NASB
Judgment was coming for the stubborn nation of Judah.
“Therefore thus says the Lord, the God of hosts, the God of Israel, ‘Behold, I am bringing on Judah and on all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the disaster that I have pronounced against them; because I spoke to them but they did not listen, and I have called them but they did not answer.’” Jeremiah 35:17 NASB
The invasion of Jerusalem and Babylonian captivity lay ahead for Judah.
Not listening to and heeding God’s Word always has serious consequences in our lives.
Are we listening? Let US choose to today to listen closely to God’s Word and not be distracted and disobedient to what God calls us to do with our lives.
