THEY TRUSTED IN HIM

In the list of genealogies for today, 1 Chron. 5:18-22 stands out as something special. The sons of Reuben, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh consisted of valiant warriors. They made war with the Hagrites, Jetur, Naphish, and Nodab. The key phrase is “they cried out to God in the battle”. They were skilled warriors, but they realized they needed help from almighty God in order to defeat the enemy, and God helped them win the battle and were rewarded with a large booty.

Later on, Zechariah gave this word to the governor, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel, saying, ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ says the Lord of armies.” Zech. 4:6 NASB
Psa. 20:6-7 reminds us, “Now I know that the Lord saves His anointed; He will answer him from His holy heaven with the saving strength of His right hand. Some praise their chariots and some their horses, but we will praise the name of the Lord, our God.” NASB

As we face many battles in our lives, remember that our success depends heavily on our reliance on the Lord. With God's strength and blessing, we can do anything He wants us to do. All glory belongs to Him.

Thank you, Father, for your awesome power and strength. Help us to keep our eyes on You, rather than the circumstances surrounding us, and allow You to fight for us when we are too weak to win the battle on our limited strength and wisdom. Amen.
