HOPE IN GOD
Our Message Today is from Ezra 4:7-23 and 7:1-8:36
The book by Ezra the prophet is part of the many warnings that God gave His people for disobedience to God’s laws. It shows that His warnings continue through the first deportation of Israel to Assyria and of Judah to Babylon and finally to the destruction of Jerusalem in 586 BC.
These events occurred under many kings and prophets of both the Northern (Israel) and Southern (Judah) Kingdoms and also the Kings of Babylon, Persia and Media.
The return of the exiles and rebuilding of the temple after 70 years shows God’s love and faithfulness in keeping His covenant with His people.
The warnings of Elijah, Jeremiah, Ezra, Elisha and others were all ignored and brought God’s wrath and judgement on His people causing 70 years of exile in Babylon and the fall of Jerusalem.
Ezra and II Chronicles cover the decree of Cyrus the Great to return and rebuild the temple and later to rebuild the walls of the city of Jerusalem by Nehemiah in 425 BC.
Our message of hope from Ezra is similar to Paul’s message in Romans 15:4 and is a great message of hope – which can guide and teach us to daily have hope in God and His promises.
