WHO DO YOU SAY JESUS IS?

One of my favorite stories about Peter, the great fisherman, is when he was asked by Jesus “who do you say I am”. What a question to be asked by the Son of God. I wonder what his reaction was when those words finally came out of his mouth. Wouldn’t you have liked to be standing right there?

Romans 10:9-10 says. “If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved”.

We all have to come to that point where we have to make a decision as to who Jesus really is, and when we do, it changes everything. Peter’s daily life changed from working on the lake every day trying to catch enough fish to feed his family to becoming a great “fisher of men”. When he met Jesus, everything began to change. When Peter met Jesus, his daily life’s priorities changed from life on the lake (kind of my dream spot on this planet) to a life on the road where he would proclaim the gospel and grow the church. Sound familiar? How about you? When we meet Jesus, things change forever. We don’t become perfect or sinless in this life, but God begins to change everything about us to make us more like His Son. We become children of God, citizens of heaven, and our name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life forever. That’s a really good exchange and an amazing transformation, isn’t it? Each of the gospel writers sheds a little light on Peter’s famous confession for us.

Mark 8:28 Peter replied, “You are the Messiah.”
Matthew 16:16 “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
Luke 9:20 Peter answered, “God’s Messiah.”

Every person has to decide who Jesus is and following Him will change everything in your life story. If Jesus asked you, “who do you say that I am,” what would you say? Have you made that great exchange, accepted the greatest gift from God that has been offered, and answered that question? If so, take a moment and make a list of all the things that have changed in your life since you met God’s Messiah. You’ll be shocked and thankful to see every area that God has worked in you life. Enjoy this new life in Christ that God gives you, and make each day count for Jesus the Messiah…Jesus your Messiah.
