THE PLACE OF COMFORT AND SAFETY

Psalms 46:1 "GOD is our refuge and strength, a very present help in the time of trouble."

Life presents to all of us many struggles and difficulties. There are many things we have to deal with. There are financial setbacks, physical problems, loss of loved ones, wrong decisions and their consequences, divorce, people who seek to take advantage of us, and on and on we go. This is only a drop in the bucket. There is no end to the problems we are confronted with.

The question we have to ask is how do we deal with all these problems? Many think they are able to handle anything that comes their way. They think they are strong enough, and wise enough that they can handle it. But that is wrong. GOD says that there is a better way. Psalms 46:1 says "GOD is our refuge and strength, a very present help in the time of trouble." In Matthew 11:28 the Scripture says " Come unto me, all of you that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart and you shall find rest unto your soul. For my yoke is easy and my burden light."

The promises of GOD bring comfort, direction, and peace to the human heart. There is a place of refuge and strength for the burdened soul. It is in GOD. It is in the Holy Scriptures. It is in prayer. It is in resting in GOD. It is in faith in GOD. It is in calling out to GOD for help. Philippians 4:6 says" Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto GOD, and the peace of GOD which passes all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Be wise and take your burdens to the LORD and he will sustain you.

The hymn " What a friend we have in Jesus" says "what a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear. What a privilege to carry everything to GOD in prayer. Oh, what peace we often forfeit, Oh, what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry, everything to GOD in prayer."
