I HAVE CREDIT FROM GOD!!
Our passage in Romans 4:1-12 is one that I absolutely love. It discusses the fact that Abraham believed in God and that faith was “credited to him as righteousness.” The other chapters of Romans go on to say that in that same way, all who put their faith and trust in Jesus are credited with His righteousness.
The word “credited” jumped out at me since I understand credit very well. I bought a home using credit. The bank paid out a large amount of money to the seller since I did not have the ability to buy it on my own. The bank’s credit made it possible for me to enjoy a home I couldn’t pay for myself.
Perhaps in a similar way I could never “afford” the mansion in heaven that Jesus has promised He has prepared for me. But Jesus not only saved me but I am now co-heirs with Him, so that all His riches and righteousness have been freely given to me.
The passage also makes it clear we must never think we need to try and earn this righteousness. Abraham was counted as righteous because he trusted in God’s promises alone and God’s ability to do what He said He would do. Thank God with me now: Lord Jesus, You lived a sinless life, You took my place on the cross, You rose from the dead, You rule over all, I thank you with all my heart for declaring me righteous, forgiven, free, and Your child forever. Love You Lord. Amen.
