A GREATER POWER

When Sennacherib threatened Jerusalem Hezekiah encouraged his officers: "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria and the vast army with him, for there is a greater power with us than with him. With him is only the arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles”  (2 Chron. 32:7-8a). He reminded them of the truth of who their God was. Even after this, Sennacherib tried to get them to doubt his words, but Hezekiah cried out to the Lord and God delivered them by His own hand and "took care of them on every side" (32:22).

I struggle a lot with fear and its paralyzing effects. It's easy for me to get in the midst of these internal battles and to take my eyes off Jesus. That's when the Enemy starts shouting accusations or whispering doubts in my ear. But all I need to do is recognize that I have "a greater power with [me]...the Lord [my] God". I can cry out to Him, my Abba Father who longs to deliver me and show Himself powerful in my weakness. He is more than able to come to my rescue as I fix my eyes on Jesus. "...He said to me: 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power might rest on me" (2 Cor. 12:9b).
