BE HOLY

2 Timothy 2:1-21

Normally I start my blogs by writing out the verses contained in the passage. Today I will only deal with the last verse of the passage so, I am only writing out that verse.

Verse 21: “Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.”

In reading the passage you can understand what Paul means when he refers to “Those who cleanse themselves from latter…” If you haven’t read the passage, please do so! Paul starts by telling us that we need to “be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus”. He then lists many things that hamper the life of a young Christian, preventing him from being useful to his Master. He then gives us a trustworthy saying beginning in verse 11:
If we died with him,
    we will also live with him;
If we endure,
   we will also reign with him.
If we disown him,
   He will also disown us;
If we are faithless,
   He remains faithful,
   for he cannot disown himself.

This deals with a topic that seems to have been lost in discussions about our Christian walk, Holiness. Throughout Scripture we are told that “we should be Holy because He is Holy.” Holiness, according to verse 21, is our cleansing our lives of anything that stands in way of our being useful to the Master. And, it’s not a onetime exercise, it is a way of life. And, this is not God’s responsibility, it is ours! Paul tells us that we need to cleanse ourselves in order that we may be “instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.” God bless each of you!
