THE CHOICE IS OURS

Galatians 6:7-10, “A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people…”

I like the farming aspect of these verses. Whatever we sow, like a farmer sowing seed, is what we will expect to reap. A farmer doesn’t sow wheat seed and expect corn to pop up. If we only sow to our flesh, to gain earthly things, then that is all we will get. If we sow to the Spirit, like going to church, Bible study, small group time, we will expect to reap spiritual things and in the end eternal life. What is 70 to 90 years of doing your own thing as compared to eternity?

And like a farmer, don’t get ahead of yourself but let yourself grow. Take the time you need and don’t look to someone else and expect to mature in the Christian life at the same rate. A farmer checks his crop and determines the time for harvest. Too early and the crop is not developed and won’t be as good. If too late, then it can rot before it gets to market.

Verse 10, “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people.” The choice is ours. If we have an opportunity to do good, do good. If we have an opportunity to do evil, stop, do the good thing instead.  “And God who sees in secret will reward you.”  Matthew 6:4.
