GOD IS GRACIOUS TO US

PSALM 57 Prayer for Rescue from Persecutors. For the choir director; set to Al-tashheth. A Mikhtam of David, when he fled from Saul in the cave.

Praise in the midst of trouble…
It works for a king, it works for you. Psalm 57 shows us the way it’s done.

Ever want to hide from your enemies. David was forced to hide from Saul several times in his life and it’s amazing how he constantly uses his rough situations as a place to remind himself of God’s goodness and strength. He prays for God to be gracious to him as he takes refuge in Him who can send forth “His lovingkindness and His truth” v. 3. Read on…

1 Be gracious to me, O God, be gracious to me, For my soul takes refuge in You; And in the shadow of Your wings I will take refuge Until destruction passes by.
2 I will cry to God Most High, To God who accomplishes all things for me.
3 He will send from heaven and save me; He reproaches him who tramples upon me. Selah. God will send forth His lovingkindness and His truth.
4 My soul is among lions; I must lie among those who breathe forth fire, Even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows And their tongue a sharp sword.
5 Be exalted above the heavens, O God; Let Your glory be above all the earth.
6 They have prepared a net for my steps; My soul is bowed down; They dug a pit before me; They themselves have fallen into the midst of it. Selah.
7My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises!
8 Awake, my glory! Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn.
9 I will give thanks to You, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to You among the nations.
10 For Your lovingkindness is great to the heavens And Your truth to the clouds.
11 Be exalted above the heavens, O God; Let Your glory be above all the earth.

New American Standard Bible: 1995 update (Ps 57). (1995). The Lockman Foundation.

I love the things David lists that he will do as he goes through this trial.
“My soul takes refuge in You” – V 1
“I will cry to God Most High”  V 2
“My soul is bowed down” – V 7
“My heart is steadfast” – V 7
“I will sing praises” – V 7
“I will awaken the dawn" - V 8
“I will give thanks” – V 9
“I will sing praises” – V 9

Your job today is make a list from Psalm 57 that God brings to him while he’s hiding from the enemy. Just to get you started…
God provides protection until destruction passes by – V 1
God accomplishes all things for him – V 2
He will send from Heaven to and save him V 3

Your turn….
(And by the way God promises the same gracious treatment for you)
