In John 19 there are three final words that Jesus said just before He died: “It is finished!” His purpose of providing a way of salvation was completed. There was nothing more for Him to do to save us. Like the thief next to Him, all we would have to do is simply place our trust in Him.

His death finished the reason He came, which was to save us. As He hung on the cross those hours, the way of salvation was not yet complete. He knew it was only by finally dying that the way of salvation would become a reality.

When we heard the message of the cross and believed, our personal salvation was also finished. We were indwelt instantly by the Holy Spirit and became God’s children. All who have trusted and received Jesus can say, “My salvation is settled, complete, and finished.”
