PSALM 32

Psalm 32 has always been a favorite of mine. I had a Bible professor that enhanced this Psalm for me over 50 years ago and what he said about this Psalm has stuck with me all these years. I hope I can do justice to what he taught us. So, here goes…

Verses 1&2 “Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit.” {This is how life should be for all of us, how God wants it to be.}

Verses 3&4 “When I kept silent , my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy on me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer.” {When I knew nothing about how God wanted my life to be, He had me under conviction.}

Verse 5 “ Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.’ And you forgave the guilt of my sin.” {Confession! I acknowledged my sin and hid nothing from you. And you forgave me not only of my sin, but the guilt of that sin, also. What a tremendous relief you have given to me!}

Verse 6 “Therefore let all the faithful pray to you while you may be found; surely the rising of the mighty waters will not reach them.” {May all come to salvation and experience what I have before it is too late!}

Verse 7 “You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.” {God provides safety and peace when all around us is chaos!}

Verse 8 “I will  instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.” {God will instruct and teach us in the way we should go, He will keep His loving eye on us and counsel us. He will actively participate in our lives and watch over us with His loving eye!}

Verse 9 “Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you.” {Listen to me, do not be hardheaded! A life with God’s loving guidance is so much more preferable than one without Him.}

Verse 10 “Many are the woes of the wicked, but the Lord’s unfailing love surrounds the one who trusts in Him.” {This is further confirmation that a life with God’s unfailing love surrounding those of us who trust in Him is truly preferable to the alternative!}

Verse 11 “Rejoice in the Lord and be glad you righteous; sing, all you who are upright in heart!” {Those of us who have experienced God’s forgiveness and salvation should be constantly celebrating what He has done for us through His Son, Jesus Christ! Amen!}

I hope that I have justly related what I was taught about Psalm 32 all those years ago. Any ambiguities, misstatements, or vagueness are truly my fault. My prayer is that all of us have experienced forgiveness and salvation as God has intended!
